Cardiff and South East Wales Junior Lawyers Division

Michael Zajdel


Michael was elected as Chair of the Committee in late-2017 after joining in 2016 as Events Coordinator and taking over as Interim Chair early-2017. He is a Legal Assistant at Acuity Legal, a final year part-time LPC student at Cardiff University and a junior member of the Cardiff and District Law Society.

His main goals for this year are to:

  • build upon the JLD’s very successful year 2016/2017;
  • introduce a JLD Membership Card with local discounts for junior lawyers and LPC students;
  • create a stronger relationship with Cardiff and District Law Society; and
  • expand JLD’s network with local businesses and law firms.

Apart from the above, he is looking to hold many exciting networking events for junior lawyers and law students in the upcoming year!

Clare Good

Vice Chair

Clare was elected as Vice Chair of the committee in 2017 after joining in 2016 as an Events Organiser. Clare is a trainee solicitor at JCP Solicitors Ltd, currently undertaking a seat in Business Litigation. Clare enjoyed her first year on the Committee and seeks to build on the ongoing successes of the local JLD for the year ahead with many more successful events.

Natalie Matthews


Natalie is the secretary for the committee 2017-18. Natalie completed her Law Degree at Cardiff University along with her LPC. She is a first year trainee at JNP Legal, a high street practice based at Merthyr Tydfil and Nelson. In her spare time Natalie is kept very busy with her 1 year old!

Joanna McSwiney


Eleri Williams

National Representative

Eleri was elected as National Representative of the JLD and this is her first year on the committee. She is a legal advisor at JCP Solicitors in Cardiff after having completed her law degree in 2015 and her LPC in 2016. Eleri is looking forward to working with the JLD and local law societies, and to organising lots of interesting events.

Charlotte Hughes

Charlotte Hughes

Media Team

Charlotte is a graduate of the university of South Wales with a Masters of Law and Legal Practice.  Charlotte is currently a Trainee Solicitor at Watkins and Gunn Solicitors.  Charlotte is a media officer on the committee publicising all events hosted by the JLD and keeping the JLD newsletter up-to-date.  Charlotte is a fluent welsh speaker and exercises this by judging in an annual Urdd Eisteddfod.  Charlotte is a keen skier and plays netball for her local team.  Charlotte is excited to start her third year on the committee.


Joy Baker

Media Team

Joy was elected a media officer for the committee in 2016. Joy completed an undergraduate law degree at Swansea University in 2008 before undertaking the LPC at Cardiff University in 2009. Joy completed her training contract with Harding Evans and is now a solicitor in the Contested Wills, Trusts and Estates department at Hugh James. This is Joy’s second year on the JLD committee and she is excited to continue putting her organisational skills to good use.

Carys Jones

Media Team

Carys is a Clinical Negligence Solicitor at Harding Evans.  She joined the committee in 2014 as the High Street Firms’ Representative and was Chair in 2015-2016. She is now in her second year as a Media Officer and her main role is to keep the website updated.


Charlotte Werner

Events Team

Charlotte graduated from the University of Exeter in September 2017 after completing her LLB. She is currently undertaking the full-time LPC at Cardiff University, alongside paralegal work, before beginning her training contract in Hugh James in September 2018. This is her first year on committee, so she is very excited to work with JLD veterans on some exciting new events!

Aimee Breen

Events Team

Aimee is one of the events coordinators for this year’s committee.  This is her first year on the committee but she has plenty of experience of event planning having organised many events during her undergraduate studies and is on the social committee at Hugh James.  She completed her undergraduate degree in Law from the University of Leicester in 2016 and is currently in her second year studying for the LPC part time at Cardiff University.  Aimee is looking forward to planning many exciting events for the JLD this year.
